Russell Davey is BT’s Principal Network Architect with responsibility for layer 1 transmission.

He graduated from Oxford University with a degree in physics and then obtained a PhD from Strathclyde University for his research into modelocked erbium fibre lasers and an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering from University College, London.  He has worked for BT for over 30 years on all aspects of optical fibre networks ranging from fibre-to-the-premises to core transmission.  

Russell is a BT Fellow, a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and  a Member of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals.   He has authored over eighty publications and was a  co-founder of the Next Generation PON group within the Full Services Access Network world-wide industry association of network operators which led to the latest generation of ITU-T standards for fibre-to-the-premises.
